Dentures over implants are prostheses that are held onto the dental implants, therefore, the patient must previously undergo a surgical procedure to place the implants and that way obtain a safer bite.
The amount of dental implants used for these prostheses will depend on the patient as they all have different characteristics.
Types of prostheses on implants
Fixed prostheses
The implant-supported prostheses are fixed and, instead of being held by your teeth, they are attached to the dental implants, achieving great support and firmness. They can be screwed or cemented (glued). They are the ideal solution for a patient without teeth, but it doesn’t apply for all cases.
Removable prostheses
As for implant-muco-supported prostheses or dentures, they are completely removable whenever you want. This type of prostheses has a system called a locator (male-female) which gives a greater support.
Hybrid prostheses
These are fixed prostheses that are screwed to the implants. They are made of a metal reinforcement on which will go an artificial pink gum and a veneer (tooth). Their main advantage is that they have no palate and veneers can be easily repaired in the clinic. They are very aesthetic.
